How to Apply the Vinyls
The vinyls are applied using the water and soap technique, which allows repositioning them before the adhesive cures permanently. Follow these steps:
- Prepare the surface. If you are applying on raw MDF, sand with fine-grit sandpaper and thoroughly clean the resulting dust. If the surface is a laminated board, thorough cleaning is sufficient. Dust is the main enemy of vinyl.
- Prepare the mixture. Fill a spray bottle with water and a few drops of dish soap.
- Apply the vinyl. Spray water generously over the surface and place the vinyl piece on top. The water film will allow you to slide it and adjust it to the exact position.
- Remove the water. With a vinyl squeegee or a credit card wrapped in a soft cloth, push the water from the center towards the edges with firm, even movements.
- Let dry. Repeat the water removal operation at intervals of several hours to ensure no trapped moisture remains. Let dry completely before the next step.
- Trim the excess. With a sharp cutter, trim the excess edges once the vinyl is completely dry and adhered.
